British Dodgeball Update on COVID-19
British Dodgeball would like to update our players and clubs on the situation with Coronavirus COVID-19 and dodgeball following our initial update last week.
After this afternoons most recent advice from UK Government we will not be cancelling or postponing any of our events currently. We are discussing our response to this ongoing situation daily with relevant stakeholders and venue partners.
We are working on contingency plans should any of our events become cancelled or postponed.
Update 13/03:
After consultation with the venues we have made the difficult decision to cancel this weekends events taking place in England and Northern Ireland. That includes the English National Leagues at St Georges Park the Northern Irish National Leagues at Queens, the Mixed League in Stafford and the University Open in Manchester.
The England v Northern Ireland fixture for next weekend has also been cancelled.
The Welsh & Scottish leagues will be going ahead as planned due to the lower number of people attending.
Updates on other events coming up will be provided ASAP.
We understand that this may be disappointing news but the health and safety of our players, staff and their families is of immediate priority.
We hope to be able to reschedule all fixtures but at this time we believe it would be unwise of us to suggest any dates.
A message for dodgeball clubs. For now, this doesn’t mean you can’t still run activities where people gather, and it definitely doesn’t mean people should be discouraged from being active. Given that being fit and healthy acts as a deterrent to most infections, it’s crucial that we all continue to lead active lives throughout this period. Unless there is advice not to do so, and as long as you follow the government advice on how to avoid catching or spreading the virus, you can continue with your club sessions.
We urge all players and clubs to follow up to date advice from the government in terms of prevention, travel and treatment. If you are worried about participating in or officiating at a British Dodgeball event please consult the latest government advice:
Exercising, having good hygiene and being healthy is always an important deterrent to the risk of any infection.
