Case Study: Michael Molloy – Completing the Online Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Dodgeball

British Dodgeball is proud to highlight the experience of Michael Molloy, a coach with the Belfast Tournadoes, who recently completed the new Online Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Dodgeball. As part of one of the very first online cohorts, Michael’s journey offers valuable insight into how accessible, flexible, and high-quality the online qualification has become.

A Flexible and Accessible Pathway

The online Level 2 pathway allows coaches to develop their skills without travel through:

  • 3 hours of self-paced learning
  • Two interactive live webinars
  • A video-based final coaching assessment

For Michael, this format made progression manageable alongside his regular coaching for the club in Belfast.

“Working with Aden was a transformative experience. His insight, clarity, and practical guidance made the course both inspiring and immediately useful.”

Learning Experience

Across the programme, Michael strengthened his technical, tactical, and planning knowledge in several key areas, including:

  • Coaching core skills and applying effective corrections
  • Implementing a range of offensive and defensive strategies
  • Using and adapting the official dodgeball ruleset
  • Delivering safe, structured and engaging coaching sessions
  • Applying different coaching styles and approaches

He particularly valued the chance to learn more about his own coaching identity:

“My favourite part was discovering my coaching style and integrating other approaches effectively. The frameworks and real-world examples made it easy to recognise strengths, spot blind spots, and apply new techniques with confidence.”

Assessment Process

For the assessment, Michael submitted a 20–30 minute recorded coaching session, supported by a session plan and timestamped breakdown. He found the instructions clear and the process straightforward.

Practical Feedback from Michael

  • Video & Audio:
The guidance document was useful. Michael suggested including a tip on adjusting phone recording quality to avoid storage issues.
“I reduced my phone from 4K to 720p, which made it easy to record the full 30-minute session.”
  • Instructions:
All assessment requirements were clearly laid out and answered any questions he had.
  • Permissions & Setup:
No issues — the team ensured anyone who preferred not to be filmed could stay just off-camera.

Impact on His Coaching

Michael has already begun applying learning from the course to his work with the Belfast Tournados:

“The course gave me concrete tools for medium- and long-term planning. I feel more confident structuring player development paths and creating cohesive sessions that build over time.”

He also highlighted the positive learning environment created by tutor Aden:

“Aden balances challenge with empathy, pushing you to stretch while giving the tactical support needed to succeed.”

Michael’s Testimonial

“I’d highly recommend this coaching course to any leader or coach who wants measurable improvement in their practice and their team’s performance. It delivered excellent value and what I know will be lasting results.”
