British Dodgeball Renew Higher Education Dodgeball Activator (HEDA) Scheme

British Dodgeball Renew Higher Education Dodgeball Activator (HEDA) Scheme

We are excited to announce that after an extremely successful inaugural year, British Dodgeball is continuing the Higher Education Dodgeball Activator scheme next season (2024-25) in order to continue to support the growth of university dodgeball.

Background:

The HEDA scheme is our investment in the future of university dodgeball in the UK. The objective of the scheme is to empower driven ambassadors from each institution through training to ensure that dodgeball is integrated into each university’s sporting menu. HEDAs are active players and committee members who want to support the sport and see dodgeball grow at all levels in their individual university, or those working to set up a session/club with their sports officer/athletic union’s support in the case of universities new to dodgeball. There can be up to two HEDA’s from each university across the UK, with each activator acting as a key link between each institution and British Dodgeball.

Impact:

We had 42 HEDAs in our first year across 26 universities, and are aiming to grow the scheme next season. You can see the impact of the scheme and the HEDAs below:

HEDA volunteers receive the following support & training from British Dodgeball in order to fulfil their role effectively:

  • Level 1 Award in Coaching Dodgeball (or £60 towards a Level 2/3 Certificate in Coaching Dodgeball course if the Level 1/2 is already held)
  • HEDA University Training Day –  a day in the sports hall & classroom developing knowledge of promotion, marketing, growing participation, assistant refereeing and improving session quality.
  • British Dodgeball HEDA apparel (hoody/top)
  • References from British Dodgeball to support future employment

The HEDA scheme provides support to the value of approximately £9,000 each year to university dodgeball, a significant investment for a non-core funded national governing body, as we continue to work towards Objective 6 of our 4 year plan. We are accepting applications from individuals now to form our next HEDA team, and will conduct training in early September (5th in Surrey or the 6th in Manchester) before they begin their role next academic year.

You can find out more information about the role and how to apply below – the application deadline for those looking to become our activators for the 24/25 academic year is 31st May 2024:

    Before you buy

Can I learn at my own pace?

Yes! Our courses are set up so you can start, pause and return to your learning at times which are convenient to you. There is no time limit to compete the course in. The only exception to this is the online Level 2 course, which is made up of 2 webinars and lessons to complete before/after certain points, but this is all clearly marked.

Our courses are developed by teaching and coaching professionals from around the world, led by a Physical Education specialist teacher and international dodgeball coach from the UK. The WDBF Coaching Committee endorses the courses we develop to ensure the contents are of high value to dodgeball specialists and generalist sports educators alike.

Any device with access to a browser can access this course in its entirety. No additional software (e.g., word processors) or hardware is needed, unless explicitly stated (such as recording equipment for the online Level 2 course). We recommend using Google Chrome to complete the course, although it should be compatible with all browsers.

    Our courses are aimed at:

    • Anyone wanting to learn more about dodgeball
    • Physical Education teachers
    • Generalist sports coaches
    • Dodgeball coaches
    • Dodgeball players wanting to learn more about another code of the sport

It can be completed by anyone of any age, although it is recommended each learner is aged 13+. Anyone aged under 18 should get permission from a parent or guardian before signing up to online learning on this site.

Please see our refund & cancellation policy on our Policies page for more information.

Please make sure you are logged in to the site so we know it’s you trying to pick up where you left off.

Please email hello@britishdodgeball.com and we’ll help.

You can see your progress at the top of each course. When it reaches 100%, you can download certificates from the same place!

We’re sorry to hear that. Please see our refund & cancellation policy on our Policies page for more information.

Of course. Please email hello@britishdodgeball.com and we’ll endeavour to help.
