Referee FAQ’s

How does refereeing work with British Dodgeball?

The British Dodgeball team allocates you to referee at adult, university and junior events at competitions in your regions which you highlight availability for. This is a paid role, remunerated at a rate of £12/hour with travel expenses.

Why become a British Dodgeball event referee?

What better way to earn money is there than one that allows you to have fun whilst supporting a sport you love? This is a role officiating a fun, fast and dynamic sport. We have a strong culture of promoting fair play and respect to referees and other players via our Dodgeball Code. This is a paid role with travel expenses for longer journeys covered also, with many referees earning approximately £110/day. You can work as often as you like at events which suit your schedule.

How do I sign up to referee events?

A competition manager will communicate local opportunities for you to work as a referee, and you can outline your availability and sign up to officiate one-off events or entire leagues from there.

How many matches will I officiate in a day?

That depends on the event. Open event matches and junior matches are shorter than adult league matches, so you may referee more of them.

Do I need to pay for training?

You only need to pay for the Introduction to Officiating online course, and buy a refereeing top. We cover all other training costs including referee mentor and travel fees. As such, you’ll already be in profit by the time you’ve refereed for just half a day.
