British Dodgeball has set up a brand new scheme to support colleges in integrating dodgeball into their core sports offerings for both participation and education. We understand how tough it can be for colleges to budget for new activity; British Dodgeball aims to support FE institutions in making dodgeball as accessible as possible for their students.
The British Dodgeball College Tutor Training Scheme provides the following to participating colleges for free:
- Level 1 Award in Coaching Dodgeball for three tutors
- A dodgeball equipment pack
- A British Dodgeball face-to-face Tutor Training session for three tutors (taking place Nov 26-Jan 27, book here)
- A workshop and coaching course delivery licence so your three tutors can deliver their own certified British Dodgeball workshops and courses at your college
Aden Woodall, Development Manager for British Dodgeball says, “As a group, colleges are one of our most important partnerships. Over the last five years, we have worked to grow a mutually beneficial relationship that provides opportunities for student training, work experience and for the wider community to benefit (such as school children being provided with the opportunity to compete in the British Dodgeball School Championships pathway hosted by partner colleges). In the same way that we operate the HEDA scheme (a scheme which support key leaders within university dodgeball clubs), we want to invest in college dodgeball by providing equipment and training for key staff members, who can use this new knowledge to grow dodgeball education and participation. We hope that colleges are as excited about this scheme are we are.”
As part of an extended opportunity for colleges to get involved in dodgeball, British Dodgeball is also running nine regional college dodgeball tournaments between November and March as part of the new College Championships series. These tournaments are free to enter, and colleges can bring up to two teams. The pilot events held last year were extremely well-received, and students have been officiating at schools events for a number of years – we expect students will be very excited to finally get their turn to play.
