New Club: KCL Dodgeball

Did you know King’s College London have a new dodgeball club? They are the recipient of our new club award and have secured free club membership as they look to get established. We caught up with them about being the new kid on the university dodgeball scene…

Name: KCL Dodgeball

Contact details: Facebook page, 07769298894

Session details: Friday’s 6pm-7pm, Downside Fisher Youth Club, SE1 2EZ, open to all KCL students

Why have you started this club? I’m starting this club to help offer King’s students an even wider variety of sports to take part in, while also offering the less-athletic a way to blow off steam at the end of a long week!

What work have you done so far with the club? So far in the club we have held three sessions averaging around 30 people in attendance at each session, the sessions at the moment are fairly informal and just a chance for people to learn the basic tenets of the sport. Additionally we have held five socials, these have been well-attended and all attendees have reported having a fantastic time with a friendly committee helping to foster this environment.

What are your main goals and aspirations for the club? Naturally you don’t start a club without wanting to be the best! Our aims are to eventually become the largest sport at KCL (as I believe Surrey has already managed or is close to managing with their 124 members). Additionally we hope to win the league! In terms of more specific goals, we intend to try to set up a university-wide tournament next year to help more people get into dodgeball! We also are hoping to get some friendlies on the books this academic year so long as we have enough time to prep a team!

What would you say to those thinking about setting up a university club? To those considering setting up a club I would say ‘be patient’; the odds are your university will allow you start one but it may take them time to get through all the necessary paperwork. On the back of that though, I’d say ‘be persistent,’; if it’s taking too long then don’t wait to be contacted, go out and contact those people you’re waiting to hear from, chase them up!

It is amazing to have announced three new clubs in as many weeks. Dodgeball is growing so quickly in the UK! If you are interested in setting up a new club, visit our club support page for details on how we can support you!
