Queens University Dodgeball Women’s team are set to begin their 2025 NI Super League campaign this weekend in Belfast, aiming to build on last season’s strong performances. Finishing 4th in 2024, Queens showed they could contend for a medal, demonstrating resilience and determination throughout the season. With a renewed focus and a squad that has developed through BUCS and the NI Women’s Development League, they are ready to make an impact.
Reflection on Last Season
Reflecting on last season, the team recognised their progress: “Last season we fought hard against tough opposition and though we finished fourth, it was the first time in a while that we were in contention to medal. Overall, we played well in every match and as a team finished the league happy. Going into this season we will be keeping up this energy and focus, looking to fight for every single set.” Their performances proved they belonged among the league’s best, setting the foundation for further growth this season.
Preparation for the 2025 Season
Preparation for the new season has been intense, with a major emphasis on communication and team cohesion. “This year we’ve had a massive focus on team communication, emphasising it as a foundation for newer players where previously we might have relied on older players.” Competing in BUCS and the NI Women’s Development League provided invaluable experience, testing different formations and playstyles. “Through BUCS and the NI Women’s Development League we’ve had numerous opportunities to play together in different formations and set-ups, allowing us to test ourselves against a diverse range of playing styles. This has been a great learning opportunity for brand new and experienced players alike and led to one of our development teams placing first in that league!” With increased confidence and team chemistry, Queens University Dodgeball Women are shaping up to be a strong contender.
Goals and Expectations for 2025
Looking ahead, Queens have clear objectives for the season. “The prep for our league, especially through the BUCS matches we’ve already played, means that this year’s Queens of Hearts team have already formed some really nice bonds between players. Our push for team communication, and nailing the basics means we hope to take control of sets in a way we’ve not always managed in the past.” Their strengthened synergy and structured approach aim to give them an edge over their competition. “Moreover, the synergy we’ve created within our team will hopefully propel us forward in challenging the other clubs in every set.”
The NI Super League kicks off this weekend in Belfast, with Queens University Dodgeball Women eager to showcase their growth and challenge for a higher finish in 2025.
