Blocking
Players can hold onto a dodgeball and block incoming attacks with it. Attacks are still ‘live’ until they touch the floor, so players must take care not to block a ball onto themselves or their teammates. This also means that if a player blocks the ball back to hit an opponent, then the opponent is out.
Blocking Rules – Facts
- Loss of Control: A player MUST remain in control of their blocking ball throughout a block – if their blocking ball is dislodged and touches the floor or another player, then they are eliminated (if they recover control before it touches the floor then the player can remain in).
- Hands: A player’s hands are counted as part of the ball whilst they are holding it to block. This helps the referees as spotting finger hits Vs pure ball hits is extremely hard. The player’s body is still a target however and the player is out if hit anywhere from the wrist up.
- Still Live: A blocked ball is still live and may therefore eliminate teammates or opponents, or be caught.
